Our Beliefs
- Revelation: We believe in the Scripture of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20- 21), and inerrant in the original writings (Matthew 5:17; John 10:35), and that they are the supreme and final authority in faith and life (2 Peter 1:3). Furthermore, we believe that the Bible is the only precept for faith, doctrine, and life (Psalm 93:5; 119:115; 2 Peter 3:2; Acts 17:11; Isaiah 40:8).
- Triune God: We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons (Genesis 1:1, 26; John 6:27; Ephesians 4:6; Hebrews 1:8; Acts 5:3-4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14): Father (Acts 17:29; Matthew 3:17), Son (John 14:23; 10:30; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14), and Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:11). The three are co-equal in everything and are one God (Deuteronomy 6:4; Titus 1:3).
Jesus Christ: We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:16), and born of the virgin Mary, and is fully God (John 10:30) and fully man (Galatians 4:4; 1 John 1:1; Matthew 4:2; 26:12; John 4:6; 11:35; 19:28).
- Man and Sin: We believe that man was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27; James 3:9); that he sinned (Genesis 3; Romans 5:12), and thereby incurred not only physical death (Genesis 3:20-24), but also that spiritual death which is separation from God (Romans 1:18-3:20). As a result, all human beings are born with a sinful nature and are separated from God and completely unable to save themselves (Romans 5:12).
- Salvation: We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:1-5), as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice (2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:1; Romans 1:18; 1 John 2:2); and that all who believe in Him are saved from death and justified on the basis of His shed blood (Romans 3:25). We believe that all who receive by grace, through faith, the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 2:1-5; Titus 3:5; John 3) and thereby become children of God (Ephesians 2:19; Galatians 4:5), kept by God’s power, secure in Christ forever (John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Romans 8:1, 38-39).
- Church: We believe that all who have placed their faith in Christ are united together immediately by the Holy Spirit in one spiritual body, the Church, of which Christ is the Head (1 Corinthians 12:13). This body began on the day of Pentecost and will be completed at the coming of Christ for His own (Acts 1:4-5; 2:46-47). We also believe that local assemblies of this body have been given the needed authority for administering that order, discipline, and worship which Christ the Sovereign Head has appointed (Matthew 18:15-18; 1 Corinthians 14:40; Ephesians 4:11-13). We further believe that two ordinances have been committed to the local church: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water into the name of the triune God and is commanded by Christ (Matthew 28:16-20; Acts 2:41; 10:47-48). Likewise, Christ instituted the Lord’s Supper for commemoration of His atoning death (Luke 22:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29). These two ordinances are to be observed until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Holy Spirit: We believe in the Person (see section 2) and ministry (John 14:26; Romans 8:14, 26; 2 Peter 1:21) of the Holy Spirit, convicting sinners of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8-11), and empowering believers to live victoriously and serve effectively (Romans 8). We believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs at conversion, and by the Spirit, believers are renewed, sanctified, given spiritual gifts, and adopted into God’s family (1 Corinthians 12; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 1:13).
- Resurrection: We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:6; Matthew 28:16-20), in His ascension into Heaven (Acts 1:9-11), and in His present life there for us, as High Priest and Advocate (Hebrews 4:14-16; John 14:2; Colossians 1:18). We also believe in the bodily resurrection of the just (Luke 14:14; John 5:28-29) and unjust (Revelation 20:11-15), the everlasting life of the saved (John 10:28-30; Romans 8:28-29), and the everlasting, conscious punishment of the lost (Revelation 20:11-15).
- Future Things: We believe in the personal, glorious, and bodily return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Corinthians 15:51-57). His return could come at any moment (1 Thessalonians 5:1-11). On that day the church will be presented faultless before God because of the obedience, suffering, and triumph of Jesus Christ, all sin will be wiped away forever, and God will make all things new that have been marred by the fall (Revelation 21).
Conclusion: We believe not only that this statement of doctrine is a sacred trust to be preserved and taught in its purity, but we also believe that it teaches a life to be lived, and a Gospel to be preached.
